LINER NOTES

The record ends. The feeling stays.

A recording and a proposed fragrance share one catalog number. I designed Liner Notes around that pairing, with the credits visible on the sleeve and bottle.

THE STARTING POINT

Keep the recording in the room.

Liner Notes began with the connection between music and memory. I gave each proposed scent a recording to work from, with one catalog identity linking the bottle to its sleeve. The music needed a role in the product, beyond a title printed on the package.

The artist and perfumer would have to shape that connection together. My work sets out the identity and imagined editions, with credits kept visible. The design question is how much of a recording’s character can enter the object without asking the package to explain the whole album.

THE IDENTITY

Cadence sets the rhythm.

The Cadence mark recalls piano keys and magnetic tape. Its flowing ribbons sit beside a calm horizontal wordmark. I kept the mark fixed while the surrounding campaign compositions move through repetition and pauses.

A Swiss grotesk keeps the name steady. Catalog details use monospaced type, with serif passages for the longer writing.

PRODUCT & COLLECTION DESIGN

One form. A different record.

A folded glass slab holds the family together. Edition color changes the refraction through the glass, while the label follows the same hierarchy.

These studies demonstrate the proposed collaboration model. They are not artist-approved releases.

In the End

A mineral opening gives way to a darker, textured base. Graphite glass and copper refractions carry the idea of tension and release.

SCENT DIRECTION

Mineral accord, pink pepper / Black tea, iris / Cedar, smoky vetiver

Packaging

The album and scent share a number.

The collector case gives the record and bottle separate places within one object. The catalog code follows the release across the label and sleeve, with scent credits treated as part of the liner notes.

The Master Tape Standard

The proposed model declares a fixed edition before release. Once complete, that scent edition enters the permanent vault.

Credits belong on the object

The artist and perfumer remain part of the story. Their approval and the relevant rights would shape an actual release.

Campaign

Type that keeps time.

I used spacing and repeated words as the image. Lines gather into a rhythm, then settle around one clear thought. The same composition can become a print poster or a motion sequence.

Experience

The Master Room.

An appointment-led record-shop residency brings the idea into a listening space. Personal headphones keep the sound intimate. Individual blotters let people compare the scent while returning to the recording.

A memory worth keeping

The numbered card asks where you first heard the recording. Write your own association beside the scent notes.

Discovery before allocation

The visit begins with listening and sampling. The proposed collector allocation follows a wear test, giving the scent time to develop.

THE WORK, TOGETHER

A complete release, with the same identity on the record sleeve and the bottle.
