CHRONICLE // YEAR0

Wear a year. Keep its story.

A fragrance house organized as a private library. Each edition begins with a year, then translates its cultural atmosphere into a scent brief and a book-shaped object.

THE STARTING POINT

A collection you can read on a shelf.

I began each Chronicle edition with a year. That gives the research a boundary and gives the person choosing a scent something specific to respond to. The cultural atmosphere shapes a creative scent brief and the visual direction around it.

A linen-covered volume opens to reveal the bottle. The same spine structure lets the first four chapters sit together as a small library. The book format also creates a practical challenge: it has to protect a fragrance while remaining easy to open and use.

THE IDENTITY

An imprint you can collect.

Literary capitals give CHRONICLE its authority. The double slash separates the house from YEAR0, a quieter archival imprint. A compact Y0 mark belongs on the spine and smaller edition details.

The hierarchy moves from year to edition title, then into the supporting research. Generous margins allow the object to feel like a carefully typeset volume.

PRODUCT & COLLECTION DESIGN

The first four volumes.

Each year proposes a different scent direction. The cultural reference guides the brief, with the same library format holding the collection together.

Four independent scent studies, housed in one collector system.

The private library design concept
Jazz Age Paris

1922

A powdery floral chypre draws on the atmosphere of a salon and the intimacy of a jazz room. Oxblood linen and warm foil give the edition its physical tone.

SCENT DIRECTION

Bergamot, violet leaf / Orris, rose, violet / Dry woods, labdanum, moss

Packaging

A bottle inside the page block.

The linen-bound case opens like a hardback. A fitted cavity holds the bottle, while the cover carries the year and edition name. The same hierarchy works across proposed 10 ml, 50 ml and 100 ml formats.

Campaign

Start with the year.

Put the year first. The campaign line opens its story, with the object and historical context close by. A printed insert can sit inside a bookshop or magazine.

One edition at a time

Each release has room for its own essay and visual references. A short film would connect that research to the design decisions visible on the bottle.

The Pocket Archive

The small collection gives visitors a way to compare the years at home. Reading cards connect the scent briefs to their cultural starting points.

Experience

The Reading Room.

A proposed bookshop residency introduces the collection at a shared reading bar. Guests choose a year, read its short context and compare a sample. The pace belongs to the reader.

Choose your chapter

The entry point can be a year someone remembers or one they want to investigate. Staff provide the edition reader alongside the blotter.

Keep the context

The reader leaves with the guest. An actual launch would require source research and the relevant permissions for any archival material used.

THE WORK, TOGETHER

The volumes sit together on a shelf, with each chosen year visible on its spine.
